Our first activity of the day was Moonshine Arches Trail just out of Vernal. It's main feature is a wind-carved sandstone arch. We saw this really unusual bug on the way in. It looked like a bulked up, candy coated grasshopper. I later identified this critter as some variety of "Jerusalem Cricket" (they are not crickets and not from Jerusalem).

Anyway, I deployed my drone and we took pictures both under it and on the arch.

The road from the highway back to the trail was a bit sandy and rutted and it was a bit tricky getting out rented Ford Edge back there but we expected no problems leaving. Little did we know someone had gotten their car stuck in the trail. Several of us tried to push him out to no avail. That's me on the right.

Finally, Elizabeth got the idea to call our in-keeper, Howard. He actually came out and pulled the guy out with his truck and tow rope. That was truly above and beyond.
