On Monday we said goodbye to the 3 kittens and headed out for parts unknown. Well, actually it was a quarry outside of Kemmerer Wyoming. By the way, Kemmerer is the home of the original JC Penney store. We stopped by to inquire about a hat but they were out of stock. It took some doing and a lot of dirt road driving to find "American Fossil Quarry" but we made it there, ready to dig for fossils. There was a steady wind blowing fine white grit through the air. It was the dustiest place I've ever been. It was how I imagine Arrakis might look (we are all reading Dune). We spent a couple of hours splitting sedimentary rocks into sheet-like slabs with our hammers and chisels and we did make off with quite a few fish fossils. Bonus - they let you cut your "keepers" down to size using their power operated rock saws. They actually let you use a power tool. I love Wyoming.
